Gexi Wangmu, a deputy to the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), serves as the director of an elderly care center in Maerkang City, Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, southwest China's Sichuan Province. As a post-90s NPC deputy who started her career as a frontline elderly care worker, this 34-year-old deputy has dedicated 16 years to her work.
Throughout her career, Gexi has been committed to providing quality care for the elderly. For example, she makes beds for the elderly and cleans their rooms. She also organizes painting classes, craft classes and group birthday celebrations for the elderly.
During her time as a NPC deputy, Gexi has made many suggestions about the elderly. For example, increasing the social recognition of elderly care workers and improving the elderly care service system. Regarding the shortage of elderly care workers, she says that AI-powered robots are expected to ease the burden of elderly care workers in the future.
