On February 8, tourists visited the photovoltaic floor tiles at the Press Center on Dongyu Island in Boao,Hainan. Since 2022, Hainan and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development have been creating the BoaoNear-Zero-CarbonDemonstration Zone. By 2024, its carbon emissions dropped 96.2% from 2019.
The zone produces 32 million kWh of green electricity yearly, meeting 17 million kWh of its own needs. It features many carbon-reduction techs like intelligent curtain-wall fans. It won the "Zero-Carbon Operation Area Certification" and issued relevant standards.
As it sets Chinese zero-carbon standards, it also eyes international recognition, offering solutions for global near-zero-carbon efforts.
