For many Chinese, the Spring Festival preparations begin at Winter Solstice. People clean their homes, paste Spring Festival couplets, and buy New Year’s goods. While traditional markets were once the main source for these items, online shopping has now made it easier. Making traditional handicrafts like New Year paintings and lanterns has also become a popular way to celebrate. During the festival, unique folk activities like fish lantern shows in Huizhou and the Mashe Book Fair in Henan attract many. These customs continue to thrive in modern times, bringing the rich spirit of the Chinese New Year to life. (Photo / Yu Huan)
